Our view: Judo is worth a conversation when the business needs a banker to assess several connected funding needs. Its relationship approach can help separate equipment, working capital and ownership funding into appropriate facilities. We would judge it on the resulting structure and conditions; neither a banking relationship nor a non-bank's faster answer proves which offer is cheaper.

What we can fairly assess about Judo
This review assesses the relationship-banking model described in the historical lending material linked below. Those documents are not current borrower price lists and cannot establish today’s rates, service quality or approval criteria. A written banking proposal is needed to turn that model into a loan comparison.
We could not retrieve the current official lending and pricing pages during the 5 October 2026 review. This limits the strength of a numerical recommendation. We have not filled the gap with a comparison site's rate table or carried forward the old review's minimum amounts and acquisition limits as current facts.
The useful assessment is therefore whether Judo's type of banking proposition merits a conversation, and what would make its actual proposal competitive. It is strongest where understanding the whole business could improve the structure of several connected facilities. It is harder to justify if the owner needs only a small, straightforward transaction and the process adds complexity without a better outcome.
When a banking conversation can add value
Consider an established business buying a competitor while also replacing machinery. The acquisition may depend on combined future earnings, while the machinery has its own useful life and resale value. A useful banking proposal explains the repayment source for each facility and how their security connects. That is where a relationship-led process can earn its time.
A very small, routine borrowing request may not justify the same process. Ask at the outset whether the bank serves your requested amount, industry and purpose before preparing a detailed application.
The product families solve different funding problems
Judo's historical published lending material covers term loans, lines of credit, asset finance and bank guarantees. These should not be treated as interchangeable ways to obtain the same cash. Each has a different job in a business funding plan, and the bank must confirm which products and terms are currently available to the applicant.
A term loan can fund a defined investment with a repayment schedule. A working-capital line can address timing gaps that arise repeatedly. Asset finance links borrowing to equipment or another eligible asset. A bank guarantee supports a commitment to a third party, such as an obligation under a lease, and is not simply cash paid into the business's account.
The appeal of discussing these together is that one facility may reduce pressure on another. Financing a machine over an appropriate term could leave working-capital capacity available for stock and payroll. The drawback is that the resulting package may connect several assets and obligations, so the owner needs to understand the whole arrangement.
Compare the proposal rather than an old reference rate
A bank's reference rate is only one part of a borrower's price. The margin, fees, security, covenants, term and repayment profile also matter. Obtain those details together, including any interest-only period or balloon payment.
Current public product pricing and limits could not be verified for this review. An older reference rate cannot establish today's borrower cost. The bank's written proposal is necessary for a numerical comparison.
A banking proposal should explain the business case
Take a hypothetical established manufacturer buying another operation and replacing a machine. The acquisition's repayment source might be the combined business's earnings. The machine's finance could instead be assessed around its useful life and the savings or additional production it enables. The working-capital requirement may rise during integration even if both investments are worthwhile.
A useful Judo proposal would show how those needs are separated, what cash contribution is required and what happens if integration takes longer. Simply grouping them into one large borrowing amount can conceal different repayment times and security risks. This is an assessment framework, not an account of a Judo application we made.
Prepare financial records, current management accounts, existing debt details and a forecast showing the proposed change. For an acquisition, explain the assumptions behind earnings and any expected savings. These materials make the conversation more concrete, although the bank's actual document checklist must be confirmed rather than inferred from this example.
Security and ongoing conditions deserve equal weight
Ask which assets and guarantees support each facility, what reporting is required, and what happens if financial covenants are breached. A revolving limit can be subject to review even when scheduled repayments have been made.
Put another bank's complete proposal beside Judo's. Banjo or Shift (formerly GetCapital) can also provide a comparison where the facility matches the need. A modest rate advantage may be less attractive if it comes with tighter reporting, restrictive covenants or security over more assets. Those conditions belong in the decision alongside price.
Where relationship banking can disappoint
A named banker is useful only if the resulting service and facility meet the business's needs. We would assess communication, clarity about outstanding conditions and whether the proposal explains tradeoffs. We have not measured Judo's response times or customer service, so we do not award a service score or claim that its relationship model guarantees an easier approval.
Ongoing requirements also affect value. A business may be comfortable providing regular accounts and monitoring agreed financial measures; another may find the same obligations difficult to maintain. Establish the reporting timetable, review rights and consequences of a breach in the actual documents. They can affect the stability of access even where the opening rate looks attractive.
Security can connect facilities too. An owner should know whether repaying one loan releases the associated asset or whether that asset also supports other obligations. The answer belongs in the agreement. A single coordinated banking package can simplify administration while making it less straightforward to move one facility elsewhere later.
Our assessment of Judo Bank
We would put Judo into a banking comparison for an established business with a material funding decision and a case that benefits from explanation. Its published relationship model gives a reason to investigate the quality of the proposed structure. It does not by itself establish lower pricing, broader approval or better service than another bank.
Our recommendation remains conditional because current numerical product terms were not verified. Ask for a written proposal that identifies each facility, the complete rate and fees, payment profile, security, guarantees and review conditions. Compare another bank's proposal on the same basis, then include a specialist non-bank alternative where the product genuinely matches.
Judo should earn the business through that proposal. A historical reference rate, a deposit-customer review score or the size of an old advertised acquisition loan does not answer whether the bank is a good lender for the transaction in front of you.
Sources and review scope
The sources below support the product discussion and dated history. A historical announcement does not establish current pricing or availability. Where official pages disagree, the difference is identified in the review; the provider's written offer determines approval, costs and contractual obligations.
